Assisted living facilities are an important component of the long-term care system. I'm continually surprised by the amount of elder law attorneys that are unaware of the opportunities involved in expanding their services to residents of assisted living facilities rather than restricting themselves solely to nursing home facilities. Home and community based services ("HCBS") spending was $9.2 billion in 2001, and grew to $16.7 billion by 2007. Along with all facets of long-term care, this industry is growing fast.
